MASC’s Annual Festival That Fuels Young Creatives Returns to Ottawa in April 2025

MASC will host the 2025 Young Authors and Illustrators Festival on Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9. Like they do every year, they’ve tailored workshops and masterclasses for students in Grades 4 to 8.

Award-winning Canadian artists are coming to town to inspire and educate. With the help of Thao Lam, author of Everybelly, the kids can explore the power of illustrations, and learn how light, colors, and facial expressions can tell stories without words.

YA Fantasy novelist Sarah Raughley will also teach aspiring writers to tap into their imagination. She’ll give tips on creating new worlds and characters, then put their writing skills to the test.

Other creatives joining the festival are Jeff Ross, Rina Singh, Kevin Sands, and Brian MacLachlan.

Although doors open at 8:30 AM, the first masterclass won’t begin until 9:45 AM. The morning sessions end at 11:45, followed by a lunch break and a mini dance workshop to keep the kids entertained while waiting for the afternoon program.

At 12:35 PM, the sessions resume with Author readings followed by a masterclass. Then, the day ends with a book fair and meet-and-greet so the kids can talk to other authors and illustrators.
