Join Ottawa’s Heartfelt Tributes for VE Day 80 This May 2025
Celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in Europe in downtown Ottawa on Saturday, May 3, 2025. A musical tribute will be held to honor the sacrifices of over a million Canadians who served during World War II.
The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa, who are organizing the event, are looking for pipers and drummers for the show. From 3 PM to 5 PM, pipers will line the city streets and take turns performing their song of choice for a minute.
At 5:30 PM, everyone will gather around the Cenotaph, including the 20 drummers, to perform a 30-minute show. They will play Green Hills of Tyrol, When the Battle’s Over, Amazing Grace, and the Black Bear.

Aside from this musical tribute, various events will take place throughout May to commemorate 80 years of peace. Of course, there will also be a VE Day Proclamation on Thursday, May 8, which is the official day of celebration.
One of our favorite things to do is explore the special exhibits at the Canadian War Museum. Every year, we get to learn something new about the people who helped put an end to the Second World War.
